Situated only one hour from York, Leeds, Sheffield and Lincoln, The Deep is one of the most spectacular aquariums in the world and is home to over 3,500 fish including sharks and rays – making it the perfect family day out.
The dramatic building overlooks the Humber estuary and is only a few minutes' walk from the Museums Quarter and Hull Marina. It offers a unique blend of stunning marine life, interactives and audio-visual presentations which together tell the dramatic story of the world's oceans.
Journey from the birth of the oceans into the future. Travel from tropical lagoons to the icy waters of Antarctica. As you descend deeper into the oceans come face to face with sharks, rays, shimmering golden trevally and hundreds of other exotic species.
Visitors can see the superb Amazon Flooded Forest tank which is home to some striking species including turtles, silver arowana, ripsaw catfish, motoro stingray, tiger shovelnose catfish and pacu. The flooded forests of the Amazon annually receive over 9m of rain in just three months and as a result the Amazon quickly bursts its banks and floods the surrounding area. These areas are incredibly diverse yet vulnerable environments which become home to a huge range of species.
Our newest exhibit called Living Rivers takes a look at five of the world's major river systems; the Amazon in Brazil, the Mekong in China, the Betsiboka in Madagascar, the Rio Grande in Mexico/USA and the Congo in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Living Rivers is home to fascinating species including red-bellied piranhas, leaf cutter ants, blue poison arrow frog, emerald tree boa, African butterfly fish and emporer scorpion; a real must see for the whole family.
Visitors can also enjoy the fun filled Explorers' Den where you can get up close with a range of creepy crawlies and even enjoy a spot of virtual birdwatching in the Brazilion Amazon, where The Deep is sponsoring a ranger.
Other highlights include Europe's deepest viewing tunnel, a glass life ride through a 10m deep tank, daily dive presentations and animal feedings as well as our action packed 3D movie.
As you leave the attraction, why not pop into the 'Deepartment Store' with gifts galore and something to suit all pockets. Enjoy browsing our wide variety of unique and unusual souvenirs.
